Leadership

Responsibilities and tips:

  • We run our Youth Group on the grounds which Jesus has set for us: Forgiveness, patience, kindness, and love.

  • On 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays, arrive 30 minutes before evening youth group (6pm) for meeting.

  • All are included to share thoughts, ideas, and assist with coordinating the life, vibrancy, and future of the youth group.

  • All are encouraged to help with peer ministry.

  • It is less important that you be the one to do everything; delegation is best strategy.

  • Also best strategy: do/plan things well in advance, it will save you much headache!

  • It's up to you to make sure your task gets done, whether or not it is you who did it.

  • Always follow up.

  • Things always take longer than you think.

  • Come up with a theme for the year.

  • It's perfectly fine to work with pastor.

Leadership Positions

SENATOR

  • The Senator ensures that the desires and needs of the youth are heard and addressed.

  • Serves as peer ministry leader, and occasionally as mediator.

  • Brings concerns before the council if needed.

  • Observes and cares for relational health between youth group members, bringing ideas for strengthening relationships.

  • Encourages youth to consider suggestions for improvement, and brings them to the council.

MEDIA MANAGER

  • Media Manager manages social media platforms and web presence for the youth group. Considers three audiences: Youth Group, Immanuel Church, and Community.

  • Delivers timely reminders and keeps content up-to-date.

  • Develops strategy for increasing audience (note cards, fliers... etc.).

SECRETARY

  • Description to come. Thanks for waiting!

TREASURER

  • Works with budget and events to make sure that activities remain within budget parameters.

  • Work with youth for opportunities to purchase items for youth room, activities, etc.

  • Note: primary budget responsibility resides with pastor, so treasurer does not need to be an accountant, but to keep an extra eye on things, and to raise a red flag when something seems out of place.

SNACKMASTER COORDINATOR

  • Schedule and coordinate with youth to bring snacks for Sunday night activities.

  • Will be a major player for events involving food.

  • Helps to coordinate Sunday morning donuts.

ACTIVITIES MANAGER

  • In charge of making sure the week/month/year schedule of events goes smoothly.

  • Oversees details of each event, to make sure Who, What, When, Where, Why, How will be accomplished.

  • Works with Media manager to maximize audience and participation.

  • compare youth calendar with other (church, LOC, school) calendar so that a) there are no conflicts, and b) there are opportunities to collaborate.

VICE PRESIDENT

  • Works together with President to make sure tasks of the Council is running smoothly

  • Work with council to strategize future, and long term direction of the youth group (spiritually, relationally, emotional health... etc)

  • Work with council to help accomplish goals.

  • Observe, identify, and fill (or have someone fill) responsibility gaps where needed.

PRESIDENT

  • Work together with Vice President to coordinate that Council is running smoothly (Work with Senator)

  • Work with council to strategize future, and long term direction of the youth group (spiritually, relationally, emotional health... etc)

  • Work with council to help accomplish goals.

  • Observe, identify, and fill (or have someone fill) responsibility gaps where needed.

  • Represent the youth group to Immanuel congregation. May include public speaking (rare).

Service

The following are service ideas. Youth are encouraged to think through, and consider what they may be interested in doing.

  • meals on wheels

  • youth could babysit small groups

  • help develop leadership among the young people

  • Hosting a Movie night: serving the congregation with popcorn, soft drinks, and hot dogs

  • Hosting a concert for the community: serving lemonade and snow cones.

  • Providing donuts on Sunday mornings for the congregation

  • Serving suppers for the lent and advent services.

  • Deep cleaning the sanctuary on certain special weekends, including floors, bathrooms, and pews.

  • Providing gardening services by cleaning leaves, removing honey suckle brush, etc.

  • helping seminary families move in/out

  • make Christmas gifts

  • make cards
